Lori Thomas Reid

As a divorce attorney in Franklin, Lori Thomas Reid practices family law. She is a 1985 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English degree from the University of Mississippi in 1983.  She was born in Central Illinois, and she graduated from Bement High School.  


'Best in the State' Award

After moving to Tennessee in 1994, she worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the 21st Judicial District of the State of Tennessee.  She prosecuted child support cases as a IV-D attorney for nearly ten years.  The Child Support Office won the "Best Office in the State" for five years in a row under her leadership. 

Rule 31 Listed Family Mediator

Lori is a Rule 31 Listed Family Mediator, and she enjoys assisting parties and their attorneys in resolving family law cases.  With more than twenty years of experience in family law related work, she has a unique perspective in negotiating cases during mediation.  When cases are settled in mediation, the parties save time and expensive litigation costs.  


Private Practice

After leaving the State of Tennessee Attorney General's office, she went into private practice, first joining the law firm of Puryear, Newman & Morton, PLLC where she practiced until August of 2012. Then in 2012,  along with Alison Prestwood, Lori opened the law firm of Reid and Prestwood, PLC.   On August 1, 2017, Lori opened her own firm, Reid Family Law, to continue her success in helping people during difficult times.  


What is Family Law?

Lori's expertise in Family Law consists primarily of prenuptial agreements, divorce, post-divorce, co-parenting, paternity, adoptions, child support, relocation, custody, juvenile court, and grandparents' rights.

Key Memberships

Lori is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Illinois.  Lori is an active member of the Williamson County Bar Association, and she was awarded the Professionalism Award by the Williamson County Bar Association in 2011.  She is a member of the John Marshall American Inns of Court, and the Tennessee Bar Association.  Lori is also very active in the community and served as President, Past President, Secretary, and Scholarship Chairman, of the Rotary Club of Brentwood.  She currently serves on the Foundation Board for her Rotary Club.  She is an active member of the Nashville Area Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association (she was named “Greek Woman of the Year " in 2011).  In addition, she enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House at Vanderbilt University.  Lori is a proud member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association.
